Item Description

An outstanding and deceptive old-time gemmy bi-colored tourmaline from this famed pegmatite district. The very glassy, highly lustrous, well-striated crystal looks to be a rich bottle-green in most lighting conditions. BUT - backlighting reveals the striking gorgeous hues of this layered beauty. First, the olive-green color of the notched double pyramidal termination with striated and smooth faces is noteworthy in itself. The rich bottle green body is about 5.0 cm long and is underlain by a beautiful, gemmy teal-blue section. All lighting reveals the thin pretty pink section at the base. Complete all-around and pristine, this is an exceptional older elbaite from 1970s to 80s finds from Barra do Salinas. 69 grams mass. Fairly valued at $1500-$1750 for high quality, color and unusual termination.
