Item Description
The body of this very showy and unusual bi-colored tourmaline is the classic, gemmy and gorgeous "Himalaya pink". The light frosting, high luster and striations of the prism faces partially hide the rich pink color saturation. The highly modified pinacoid termination is most striking. The termination area is translucent, light olive-green, while the facea are lustrous, frosted, very dark olive-green. The impressive skeletal clefts really add pizzazz! The crystal base hosts a teal-green/bottle-green zone. Technically, this is a doubly terminated crystal, as the base is broken and healed. That's cleavelandite on the side and trivial bit of barely noticeable side wear is certainly not a detraction. Old-time, excellent and uncommon material from the 1960s or 70s from the Ed Bancroft Collection. 14 grams.
