Gem Wulfenite and Mimetite ex Rossi Coll.

Item Description

The famous Ojuela Mine in Mexico is known for many great species, with both Wulfenite and Mimetite among them. The orange Wulfenites here are gemmy, in excellent condition, and up to 1.1 cm on edge. Two things really caught my attention about them. First, the thickness of the tabular crystals varies, which creates a definite, appealing aesthetic. Secondly, some of the edges are curved. You would think on first glance they were simply broken, but these edges are not glassy or uneven at all, but smooth and slightly frosted as they would be if they were simply primary growth. Amazing and surprising! As to the Mimetites, the spherical and sparkly habit says Ojuela, but NOT this amazing green color. Mimetites from here are almost always yellow, orange-yellow or brownish-yellow, so the vivid, lovely green is an added wrinkle that is most welcome, and takes the piece to a new level. A great small cabinet piece any collector, and especially for a collector of Mexican specimens who wants something uniquely different!
