Item Description

These gemmy, deep amber-colored uvite tourmalines are from one small find in 2006 in Pakistan, from which we acquired a flat of specimens. Uvites are a very uncommon varietal of tourmaline. Most collectors are familiar only with the red and green ones from Bahia, Brazil, and maybe one or two other localities. So when new ones turn up, it always generates a lot of interest, particularly amongst tourmaline collectors. Like the uvites from Brazil, these do not have the usual prismatic tourmaline form, but are almost beryl-like in appearance, as they appear to be hexagonal. They are richly and attractively isolated on a stark white contrasting talc matrix. The largest crystal here is 7 mm (though most are significantly smaller). This one was uncovered from old stock lost until our recent move.
