Sharp chisel form on this gorgeous gem tanzanite thumbnail crystal. This limpid, glassy beauty has very little internal crazing and has classic pleochrosim characteristic of an untreated crystal. The A and B faces are blue and blue-violet and the C face shows flashes of red. A contact lower on an edge has a bit of bruising, but is out-of-sight in in the primary display view. 17.27 carats mass. High retail value of top-quality tanzanites is now said to be around $2000/carat at Tucson. Very fine quality valued by the former dealer at $3000 ($173/carat retail). This crystal is a very good deal for the size and quality.
