Item Description

Thumbnail gem heliodors are RARE from this famous locale. Most such crystals are larger. This gem yellow-green cutie exhibits the classic complex etching noted for the locale. This locality is world-famous for these highly unusual beryl crystals, most recovered between the mid-1980s to mid-90s. An excellent article in the current issue of Rocks & Minerals by John White, former Curator of Gems and Minerals at the Smithsonian provides an in-depth examination of this fantastic etched heliodor crystal phenomenon at the Volodarsk-Volynskii. 26.13 carats or over 5 grams mass. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON, as the gemminess, luster and etched crystal surfaces made photography difficult.
