Item Description

The mines of the Eastgate Quarry are famous for producing Fluorite Penetration Twins, perhaps the most attractive of Fluorite's twin habits due to their dynamic, yet seemingly simple, form. With deep green and gemmy crystals, this small cabinet specimen is classic for this locality. The largest crystal is 1.9 cm on its longest edge, and the good luster, textured faces, and sharp, well-defined phantoms add even more to quality of the piece. And OF COURSE, they have the intense, bluish-purple fluorescence that English Fluorites are famous for. In fact, the term 'fluorescence' is derived from these Fluorites, that's how strongly they react to UV. This is a SUPERB specimen for both the species and the general locality. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. Tim helped the mining companies prepare and clean these specimens for the last nearly 20 years, and kept some very choice pieces such as this for himself in lieu of payment for his cleaning work, so it was never for sale. It is a gem! Valued $2000-2400
