Gem Fluorite on Quartz with Dolomite

Beautifully balanced and even more interesting, this fine large-cabinet specimen is from the well-known Huanggang Fe-Sn deposit in Inner Mongolia. It is from earlier finds and of a style we saw before 2010, quite distinct from modern material! The Fluorite octahedrons, the literal centerpiece of this combination, are a lovely and light lavender with wisps of darker purple. They look like gems! Beveled edges, along with some corners modified by the cube, add complexity and interest. Three intergrown octahedrons, the largest of which is 3.7 cm tip-to-tip, comprise the Fluorite cluster, and they are in very good condition save for one chip on the smallest crystal. They have a deep, purplish-blue fluorescence that has to almost be coaxed out of these crystals. This cluster is nestled perfectly into the junction where four tan Quartz crystals that are also complex seemingly cross. Each Quartz has numerous sidecars that are sub-parallel, the largest Quartz is about 11 cm, one is doubly-terminated, one is a scepter, and two radiate in opposite directions from a common core. Such great and varied detail exhibited by each species! To me, the aesthetics are excellent, as the varied geometries and habits of the Fluorite and Quartz, as well as their colors, both contrast and complement at the same time in such a pleasing way. And then throw in just a small amount of white Dolomite for good measure. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. A special piece, quite unlike modern era material here. Valued $2000-2500.
