Item Description

A truly "Killer" gem fluorapatite from this famous iron mine. Classic yellow-green color on this sharply terminated, textbook hexagonal, limpid glassy minature prism. Exceptionally water-clear, with only one barely noticeable seam of vertical interior crazing, uncommon in such specimens. Most crystals have more interior crazing from the explosives used in ore extraction. Complete all-around and essentially pristine, with only trivial out-of-sight bruising to the back of the termination. Ex Bill Panczner Collection: Bill was the first Curator of Earth Science at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in 1974 and the author of the 1987 book Minerals of Mexico. It is the most thorough summary of the subject. Read about Bill in the Mineralogical Record Biographical Archive at: https://mineralogicalrecord.com/labels.asp?colid=841. An outstanding gem fluorapatite from Cerro de Mercado. Mass is 51.23 carats or over 10 grams. This is a GEM specimen, a small miniature or toenail, but larger than a true thumbnail.
