Item Description
Celestites from Madagascar are a curse and a boon at the same time. They are so gemmy and beautiful and sharp and lustrous that you feel they should be valued more highly, and yet there are so darned many of them its hard to value them more highly than we do. However, that being said, occasionally you get a quality level that really stands out, even amongst a big crowd as this deposit is basically stripmined and sold off (which may not last forever!). This is a beautiful intact pocket of high quality crystals, with glassy luster and windowlike clarity. The largest crystals in here are over an inch, though most are smaller. Nearly all are pristine, and the piece SPARKLES even with minimal lighting. As an example of a natural pocket, its quite attractive and instructive. But more than any of that, it is good enough to transcend from being just another Madagascan celestite from the wholesale tables (ugh) to the level of being a fine specimen. Exchanged from a collection, this is a piece that came out some time ago as well. Valued $2000-2500 From an old private collection, just obtained.
