Item Description
A beautiful gem, deeply saturated blue aquamarine from a from a less well-known Madagascar pegmatite. Aquas are known from here, but complete crystals of this quality are VERY RARE. The water-clear, very glassy, textbook hexagonal, doubly terminated crystal has a striking complex pinacoidal termination. Complete all-around and pristine, this is an outstanding and rare Madagascar aquamarine with very fine blue color from this locale. The basal termination is broken and healed. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 7339. Older material acquired in San Mateo in 1974. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 86.59 carats or over 17 grams mass. Value?? We feel in the $1250-1500 range is fair because or high quality and rarity.
