Gaudefroyite (rare) with Andradite

Item Description

Here we have a wonderful association specimen of Gaudefroyite with Andradite Garnet from the N'Chwaning II Mine in South Africa. Gaudefroyite is an extremely rare calcium manganese borate that is rarely seen in fine crystals, and good display specimens are exceedingly rare. The best examples of Gaudefroyite are unquestionably found in the Kalahari Manganese Field. This specimen features many sharp, lustrous, prismatic black crystals of Gaudefroyite measuring up to 6 mm long associated with tiny rich red colored dodecahedral crystals of Andradite on matrix. Very little damage, and hard to find on the market now. Fun to view up close, and we've included some micro photos to show off the quality. A good piece for any rarities collector, a fan of South African minerals, or manganese-bearing minerals.
