Item Description

Gaudefroyite is a very rare manganese borate, and these Gaudefroyite crystals with superb, mirror-like luster are excellent. The crystals, which are slender and prismatic, range up to about 4 mm in length. One of the pockets contains some silvery metallic spheres up to about 2.5 mm. These spheres, which are probably an iron or manganese mineral, are outstanding for form and their shimmery luster. There is also some oxidized Hematite in one of the larger pockets, adding an attractive highlight to the specimen. The best Gaudefroyites in the world come from the Kalahari Manganese Field and this small cabinet is first-rate for quality and aesthetics. Much better in person.
