Item Description

From mindat.org: "The 132 North open pit nickel mine has produced the greatest variety of secondary nickel minerals found anywhere in the world to date, some being the best of their species". It should ben noted that Gaspeite is a fairly rare species, almost NEVER seen in attractive MATRIX display specimens. It's also important to note that Gaspeite is a nickel carbonate, and there are only about a dozen nickel carbonates in the mineral world. Typically Gaspeite is only seen in polished cabochons on the gem market, and actual specimens are few and far between. This piece hosts a beautifully thick layer of bright avocado green Gaspeite on host rock matrix. The piece is definitely one of the most attractive pieces of Gaspeite that I've seen. There are actual micro crystals on the upper portion of this piece, it's not a massive chunk of Gaspeite. A very attractive and worthwhile display specimen of this rare colorful mineral. Ex Wouter Van Tichelen Collection.
