Item Description
Gartrellite is a rare lead, copper, iron, zinc arsenate discovered in 1989. Greenish-yellow microcrystals are festooned on all sides of the matrix on this very rich and showy specimen from the Type Locality - Ashburton Downs in Australia. This fine piece was handled by the namesake collector of this rarity. Blair Gartrell passed away in 1995 but this piece turned up in an Aussie collection, and was collected by him. Could this be from the find which produced the type material? Certainly it was collected by the same person, and one might hope, although it cannot be proven now. Nevertheless a namesake species piece. Valued?
