Item Description

VERY RARE Garnierite from Puerto Rico, from where specimens of any type are RARE! Garnierite is a generic name and synonym for Nepouite, Pimelite and Willemseite, RARE green nickel ores which formed as a result of lateritic weathering of ultramafic rocks (serpentinite, dunite, peridotite). They occur in many nickel laterite deposits in the world (MINDAT). This is a solid blocky mass of mottled green garnierite. Rare, perhaps unique material collected in the 1940s. Ex David Burgess Collection, for whom Burgessite is named. Acquired from respected rarities dealer Pequa Minerals (Josef Vajdak).
