Item Description
Garnierite is not a valid species, but is used a general term for nickel and nickel-bearing magnesium silicates, e.g., Nepouite, Pimelite, Falcondoite, Willemseite, Pecoraite, Lizardite, Kerolite and Talc. The was originally reported in 1864 from New Caledonia, and is found in pockets and veins within weathered and serpentinized ultramafic rocks, and This piece is from the type locality for the material and could easily date back 100+ years. It is essentially a solid piece of beautiful "nickel"-green Garnierite free of matrix. Rare and beautiful and hard to find on the market.
