Garnet var. Almandine (USA classic!) ex Jack Halpern Collection

Impressive, beautifully balanced specimen showcasing the famous, wine-red Almandine Garnets of Wrangell Island, Alaska. Still embedded in their schist matrix, the isolated crystals stand out in dramatic fashion. The largest is 2.3 cm across, and their excellent form, luster, and color show why these Garnets have always been coveted. These are old classics, and though once abundant, Wrangell Island Almandines are hard to come by these days, especially in matrix. Note, these crystals have to be worked out of the enclosing matrix and although I cannot say it is repaired for sure, I assume it is repaired or at least stabilized with glue to keep them in - although this does not detract visually, in any case.
