Item Description
This piece appears to be Grossular Garnet, and there is a mentiond of "Hessonite" in the classic book, "The Minerals of New York City & Its Environs" by James G. Manchester. This specimen comes to us from the collection of Frances Patricia ("Pat") Gross, who was a well known micro collector in West Orange, New Jersey, and a mentor to dealer and collector Richard A. Kosnar. Rich ended up with Pat's collection after her death in the 1990s. Micro crystals of a golden-orange hue, with sharp, lustrous dodecahedral faces sit on matrix. Sorry for the less than specific locality, but I'm going off of the info on Pat's plastic mounting box.
