Item Description
Please note that this specimen was labeled as coming from the Khyber Pass area, Afghanistan, but it certainly could be from a number of localities in Pakistan. The Khyber Pass was never a mineral locality as far as I can tell, but rather a means of bringing material to the market in Peshawar. With that said, this piece is an attractive miniature specimen comprising sharp, well-formed, lustrous, deep red color dodecahedral / trapezohedral crystals of what I believe to be Spessartine Garnet with the largest crystal measuring 1.8 cm across. The piece is a in good condition on the front with only a couple slight bruises, and it's obviously contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#10644). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
