Garnet (color shift) (fantasy cut by Brett Kosnar)

Item Description

Here we have a fantastic "color shift" Garnet gemstone from Tanzania. In cooler temperature lighting, the stone shows a purple hue, and in warmer temperature lighting, it shifts to more of a pink color. We like to use the term "color shift" as opposed to "color change", because the two hues are still fairly close to one another on the color wheel, and it's not like it's a full Alexandrite-type effect where a stone changes from reddish-purple to blue-green in different temperature lighting. This "freeform" cut stone has what is called a "Fantasy" cut, where the underside/pavilion/culet area of the gem has actually been carved to create beautiful geometric patterns, freeform designs or unique shapes that are seldom seen in any colored stones on the market today. The gem was cut by Brett Kosnar of Kosnar Gem Co., who is a 4-time AGTA Spectrum Award winning gem cutter. When the stone is backlit, you can see some very slight inclusions, but it's still quite clean overall. Valued at $814.50 high retail.
