Item Description

This famous Carles Mine in Asturias Spain in a copper-gold bearing skarn that has occasionally produced some very attractive Garnet specimens (Andradite-Grossular Series). This particular piece features some of the largest individual crystals I've ever seen from the mine. Several robust, well-formed, textbook trapezohedral crystals measuring up to 2.7 cm are intergrown with a bit of associated with a bit of white Quartz on the back to create an impressive and excellent quality example of these hard to find Garnet specimens. The internal color is an amber-gold hue and best seen when the crystals are backlit, but there is one corner of one of the smaller crystals on the base of the piece that shows a rich orange-red hue internally. Overall the piece is in very good shape, with only one contact of note and a separation mark on the back of one of the smaller crystals. If you collect worldwide Garnets, this is a really interesting and hard to find locality specimen that would make a great addition to you collection. Valued at $700 in the inventory.
