Garnet

People love Garnets becuase they are found in a wide range of vivid colors, often yielding good sized stones. This stone was labeled as a "Garnet", but if I had to guess a specific species, I would say it's most likely Spessartine based upon the color. This "checkerboard square cushion" stone has a deep wine red color with nearly eye clean clarity. The fact that it's well over 2 carats makes it collector quality, and is a great stone to fill a spot in your collection, especially if you're a Garnet collector.
