Galena with Pyrite, Fluorite, and Quartz

Item Description

Galena is the centerpiece for this very fine combination piece, collected in 1992 from the roof of the Frazer's Hush Mine. The modified Galena crystals reach up to 2.5 cm, have beveled corners, and an excellent, bright, metallic luster. These Galenas rest on a plate of contiguous, finely-crystalline Quartz. Also on this matrix are brilliant, mm-size Pyrites clustered with lustrous Sphalerite crystals, and several gemmy, brightly fluorescent Fluorites. This choice, small cabinet specimen was formerly in the renowned Lindsay Greenbank collection. An interesting historical note: the name 'Hush' is derived from the old mining process of 'hushing', the releasing of temporarily dammed water so that its erosional force/effect could help the mining effort.
