Item Description

A superb, old-time, CABINET, galena specimen from the famous Ballard Mine of the Kansas portion of the renowned Tri-State District. Splendent, metallic galena cubes to 4.0 cm are aesthetically clustered on the chert matrix and nicely accented with marcasite cogwheels and a some sphalerite crystals. A few of the galena crystal corners have octahedral modifications and there are scattered secondary galena overgrowths or "fortification" patterns that add character. This super piece is eminently displayable from either side and the trivial scattered edgewear is barely noticeable and is certainly not a detraction. Classic and outstanding material from this historic district from the Ed David Collection.. Mass is over 1 kilo! Valued $1250-1500
