Item Description
A very fine cluster of metallic-gray Galena crystals from the famous Freiberg District in Germany. The Galenas are cubic, with corners modified by the octahedron. Many have a nice iridescence, and some faces have a fascinating, ratcheted tiering that is so attractive and even more unusual. The largest Galena is 2.2 cm on edge, and nestled among these crystals are pockets of highly fluorescent, bright yellow Fluorites. Classic material from this renowned locale. Previously in the Miller collection from the 1800’s, after which it went to James B. Cone and the Wadsworth Atheneaum, and then to the Loomis Chaffee School (this label style is known to have that history). From the large worldwide collection of historical minerals, of George Elling of New Jersey.
