Galena with Chalcopyrite on Dolomite (ex Brian Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

A wonderfully aesthetic and highly displayable specimen of this classic material from arguably the most famous mine in the "Tri-State" area of the Midwestern US. This beautiful piece hosts a group of sharp, well-formed, highly lustrous, metallic, silvery-grey colored cubes of Galena which are sculpturally set between a couple piece of host rock matrix that are covered with light grey colored rhombic Dolomite, creating a small opening where the Galenas rest. A sprinkling of metallic brassy Chalcopyrite gives the piece characters and an added splash of color. The largest Galena crystal measures 2.0 cm on edge. While the main Galena crystals are cubic in the habit, there are some small cuboctahedral Galenas on the back of the piece for a nice touch. No major damage that I can find, and my favorite aspect is that the piece sits beautifully on its own without the need for a base or clay. Showy, fine quality and truly classic material.
