Item Description
From the Feist Collection # 3153, this large old Kansas galena specimen is really quite striking in person. The large octahedron has very interesting preferentially etched faces. The very nifty accessory cluster on the edge consists of a 1.3 cm, gemmy, doubly terminated, amber calcite crystal and two gemmy rubyjack sphalerite crystals. Nearly a floater, the contacted base of the octo, with very little actual bruising, hosts the attachment point of pink dolomite rhombs and a few scattered, brassy chalcopyrite crystals. This is a CLASSIC old Tri-State combination piece from mining in the 1940s and 1950s to the early 1960s perhaps. Wonderful gunmetal luster. Complete all-around. The Feist label identifies the dolomite as cerussite, but we believe this is not correct. Valued at $300-400.
