Galena (''Spinel''-twins) (rare locality specimen)

Item Description

An impressive and very hard to find specimen of Galena from the lesser-known Herminia Mine of the well-known Julcani District of Peru. The piece features many compressed, metallic, silvery-grey "Spinel"-twins of Galena measuring up to 3.7 cm associated with brown-tan "discs" of Siderite and a few pseudo-rhombic, off-white crystals of Baryte. The matrix is a mixture of black massive Sphalerite and Galena as far as I can tell. The piece is very showy and three-dimensional, with no major damage. It's the ONLY Galena specimen we've had to offer from this locality in the auctions, and it's really find quality to boot. Don't miss out on this one, it's better than the video might indicate, and was mined decades ago, no more like this have come out for a long time.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#32 P), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel.
