Item Description
One of the most famous localities in the Viburnum Trend for Galena is the Buick Mine. The range of habits / styles from this locality make it a desirable spot for Galena enthusiasts. This specimen features a pair of HIGHLY lustrous, brilliant silvery colored, metallic cubic crystals, which are not only slightly distorted, but have a bit of a "twist" to them. The piece obviously formed under a fair amount of pressure around it in order for the crystals to become "twisted" like this, but it's not altogether unheard of, especially from this mine. This piece is actually crystallized on all side, save one corner where it must have been attached to the pocket wall. The fantastic splendent luster is what really draws the eye, along with the odd crystal morphology. A great representation of this beautiful material probably mined in the 1970s. Valued around $400-$500. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
