Galena (skeletal cubes)

Item Description

A wonderful full cabinet sized display quality specimen from the Septemvri Mine (9th of September Mine) featuring dozens of sharp, well-formed, silvery-grey, metallic cubic crystals of Galena on matrix. The crystals measure up to 1.4 cm and have a well-defined skeletal ("hoppered") growth, which is characteristic of this locality, though rarely seen in Galena from almost anywhere else in the world. It's a notably three-dimensional piece that really stands out from across the room, and is just as captivating up close. It almost reminds me of an MC Escher painting. Small brass colored crystals of Chalcopyrite are scattered about, creating a lovely accent. This piece is completely natural and hasn't been doctored or sandblasted in anyway to create the shape. I looked it over under the microscope, and it's completely legit. Good quality, very little damage, and much less common on the market than they were 10 years ago. Ex Dr. Barratt Phillips Collection.
