Item Description

This piece is an incredibly hard-to-find locality specimen, and as far as I can remember, we've never had a Galena from Mazapil to offer before this one. The piece hosts excellent, well-formed, sharp, lustrous, silvery-grey colored cuboctahedral crystals of Galena measuring up to 1.6 cm on edge, sitting on matrix. The highlight of the specimen is a small iron-stained scalenohedral crystal of Calcite (incorrectly labeled as Quartz) measuring 1.2 cm aesthetically flaring out of the top of the specimen. If you look closely, you can see there is a bit of skeletal or negative crystal growth on one of the Galenas. Minor Sphalerite is present on the piece as well. If you collect sulfides, lead minerals, or specimens from Mexico, don't miss out on this one, you might not see another like it anytime soon. From the collections of Dr. Barratt Phillips and Erik Rose.
