Item Description
Composed entirely of crystalline Galena, this rich plate is from the Cloud Hill Quarry in England. The octahedral Galena crystals have a very uniform silvery-grey color and matte luster, which gives the specimen an agreeable and pleasant look. Many of the Galenas reach up to 1 cm on edge, and number of the crystals have some preferential dissolution that creates a hoppering effect. These variations definitely add to the mineralogical and visual interest. Cloud Hill Quarry is best known for its quality Calcite specimens, so this attractive, large small cabinet specimen represents an exceptional specimen for the locality. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. It has a label noting it was found, collected in 2004.
