Item Description
A very rare and excellent CABINET galena specimen from Tsumeb. Galena crystals are uncommon and rarely reach 1 cm in size, according to the literature. This hefty piece of solid, copper oxide-coated, green galena not only has large cubic crystals, but also rare large spinel-twins. The cubes reach 1.0 cm and the spinel-twins a huge 3.0 cm! While not a particularly showy specimen, this is certainly a valuable rarity of the most common lead mineral at Tsumeb. Ex Bob Byers Collection. His label also indicates, that this piece has enargite pseudomorphs after galena - VERY NEAT! Valued at $800-1000 for rarity and size of crystals. "Heavy lead " at 468 grams or just over 1.0 pound. LABEL HAD A PRICE OF $651 ON BACK.
