Item Description
Classic material from Trepca in the former Yugoslavia featuring sharp, lustrous, silvery colored cuboctahedral crystals of Galena which have formed pseudomorphs after preexisting bladed Pyrrhotite crystals on matrix. The largest pseudomorph measures 1.7 cm across. The habit of the Galena crystals is a sign that this is was a high temperature formation, as octahedral Galena is rare in nature, and requires high pressure and temperature to form. Great quality, old material, and impossible to find on the market today. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7680) accompanied by an old Lidstrom's label. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
