Galena on Quartz with Sphalerite (rare locale)

Item Description

This is a large, attractive and rare example of a well crystallized sulfide combination specimen on matrix from the Czech Republic - and a cabinet piece from an ancient silver mining  location of a size that we rarely see for sale. It is likely a somewhat older piece, although no telling how old. The locations here all go back to ancient mining, whether the Stribro (Mies) locale or the Ratiborske Hory locale which Kurt had listed in his catalog. A big, lustrous, 4.5 cm Galena crystal displays prominently at the rear-center of this cabinet specimen that is liberally scattered with numerous, 2 to 8 mm, lustrous, black Sphalerite crystals on a matrix of drusy, sparkling, translucent Quartz crystals. The big Galena, along with several other Galena crystals from 0.5 to 2 cm, are distributed near the top of the piece. Nearly all of the Galena and Sphalerite crystals on this piece are isolated which is very unusual not only for sulfide specimens, but most ay other combination piece. The metallic luster, battleship gray Galenas and the bright, lustrous, black Sphalerites contrast well on the nearly white drusy Quartz matrix. This is a very handsome and aesthetic piece from a classic old locality! PLEASE NOTE THAT WE RECEIVED A LOCAITON CORRECTION ON THIS RECENTLY AFTER POSTING FROM A MINERALOGIST IN PRAGUE: 

Instead, it is from Stribro (Mies in German), another classic locality in the Czech Republic. (Kurt had it labeled as Ratiborske Hory)

I know that Kurt's collection was quite strong on specimens from the Czech Republic, but the locality of this particular specimen is definitely incorrect.
