Galena on Quartz with Siderite

Dalnegorsk was one of the classical and most famous localities of the late 20th century that simply make you want to go back in time and buy when the getting was good. Dalnegorsk is renowned for, among other species, world-class sulfide specimens such as galena. The centerpieces of this very nifty combination piece are lustrous, complex, intergrown Galena cuboctahedron that reach up to an impressive 5.5 cm in size. The faces have good metallic luster and a gently-varying texture that creates a nice appearance to the many of the sides. Adding to the complexity is the dramatic tiering along some of the crystal overlaps, as well as hoppering on some of the faces. These hefty and interesting Galena crystals sit up on a matrix of 1.6 cm Quartz crystals, and the small amount of tan Siderites add just a bit more Dalnegorsk flavor to this classic, small-cabinet piece. This is an aesthetic and significant Galena from the early days of Russian exports (she bought this at the time they came out - late 80s or so).
