Item Description
Galena specimens are well-known but RARE from this historic old Pb-Ag-Cu mine, that closed in 1925. The locality is noted for outstanding complex galena crystals and this impresssive large two-sided rib on quartz matrix certainly qualifies. The front of the sculptural quartz crystal matrix hosts isolated very complex single and intergrown galena cuboctahedrons, to 2.2 cm. Several of the galena crystals faces on this side (all pristine) have iridescent golden coatings adding real color and pizzazz. Some of the galenas on the back are dinged, but the striking, pristine isolated crystal is 2.0 cm on the diagonal. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5236 and acquired from Dr. Werner Lieber, prominent German mineral photographer and author in March, 1968. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A classic and very fine large old-time combination from the Hannibal Mine.
