Item Description

Here we have a fantastic, superb quality and incredibly hard to find MATRIX specimen of Galena from the Grimberg Mine in Western Germany. I've only seen loose single crystals from this mine, never a matrix specimen in person, and this piece is showy and fine quality to boot. A solitary, sharp, well-formed, silvery colored cuboctahedral crystal of Galena measuring 2.3 cm across sits beautifully on crystallized, lustrous, pyramidal Quartz matrix. The Galena is essentially complete and undamaged, and shows a bit of skeletal growth on select faces. I personally love single isolated crystals centered on matrix like this, and this piece is high quality and very eye-catching, so if you're a fan of sulfides or minerals of Germany, this is something important and excellent that would make a stellar addition to your collection. Valued $2,000.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#426 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
