Item Description
The crystallized sulfide specimens from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria are some of the best examples of their respective species in the world. The Galena and Sphalerite crystals from this area are particularly fine for what they are. This piece features a handful of highly lustrous, metallic, bright silvery-grey colored cuboctahedral crystals of Galena measuring up to 4.4 cm on edge, sitting atop a layer of thin prismatic colorless Quartz crystals with minor black Sphalerite. The piece is in very good shape, though the one smaller crystal on the end is broken where it was presumably attached to the pocket wall before extraction. This piece comes to us from the collection of Charles F. Lewis (#501).
