Galena on Dolomite

Fascinating and excellent large combination from the famous Sweetwater Mine of Missouri. Two crystal styles of Galena dramatically highlight the sculptural piece. Impressive large galena Cubes with lightly modified corners dominate the elongated specimen. The splendent, metallic-gray cubes, to 3.1 cm, have a beautiful light, blue-gray steel iridescence under bright light. Two well-formed galena Octahedrons, to 1.6 cm, are nicely set on the matrix. The matrix is interesting in itself. It is composed of tiny, translucent, Dolomite rhombohedrons, cubic, cuboctahedral and octahedral Galena crystals and a nice sprinkling of tiny, contrasting, bright, golden Chalcopyrite sphenoids. Classic, excellent and very showy large combination material from the noted locale. Probably 1970s-1980s.
