Item Description
This specimen is a lovely example of the classic Galena specimens from the famous area around the Picher Field in Oklahoma. This small cabinet features many sharp, well-formed, lustrous, steel-grey colored cubic crystals of Galena measuring up to 2.7 cm across sitting atop a group of dark colored Sphalerite on minor matrix. Good quality and beautiful from the crystallographic standpoint. Some of the crystals show beautiful secondary crystal overgrowths in spots, like little steel "studs" on the cubes. I love how the piece sits on its own without the aid of a base or clay. Great old classic material from the tri-state region. Priced at $600 in the inventory. From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert (Al) Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974.
