Galena, Dolomite (fl), Chalcopyrite, and Pyrite

The Viburnum Trend is justifiably famous for its outstanding specimens, among them the sulphide minerals. On first glance, one is immediately drawn to the 'upper' side of the piece, with its excellent clusters of cubic Galenas populating a rich matrix of colorful and lustrous specular Chalcopyrite, along with Pyrite. However, turn it over, and you are introduced to an entirely different world on the 'underside'. Here, the piece is dominated by a layer of white Dolomite crystals (fluoresent, no less!) and Chalcopyrite crystals, accompanied by a set of exemplary Galena cubes, the largest of which is 1.3 cm on edge. Aside from their size, the these Galena cubes have a lovely patina and corners modified by the octahedron. This cabinet specimen is really jsut sparkly and pretty in every respect, and you can display either side with no loss of beauty or interest. There are thousands of specimens from this mine, but this one is just a little bit special.
