Item Description
The Sweetwater Mine in Missouri is known for only a handful of species, including some of the most iconic crystals of Galena from any US locality. This piece is a showy and fine quality small cabinet sized group of sharp, lustrous, metallic, silvery-grey cuboctahedral crystals measuring up to 4.6 cm on edge, free of matrix. A couple of dark brown Sphalerite crystals can be seen on the edge of the piece, and the back of the specimen features massive Sphalerite with micro metallic golden Chalcopyrite. I don't see any major damage on the front/display side of the piece, and it actually sits quite nicely on its own without the aid of a base or clay. A lovely example of this most classic material from what is the most well-known mine in the Viburnum Trend.
