Item Description
An exceptional and RARE large old-time two-sided tappered combination rib from the historic Pb-Zn Smallcleugh Mine of Alston Moor. Splendent battleship-gray galena cubes are dramatically set on both sides of the matrix covered with starkly contrasting pearlescent tan saddle-shaped Ankerite rhombs. The dominating large galena cube is 2.7 cm. Comes with a century-old label from the Philadelphia Academy of Sciences and was deaccessioned in 1973. The "Pearl Spar" on the label is Ankerite, not Dolomite. See: https://www.mindat.org/loc-1471.html. A superb large old-time two sided galena and ankerite from the locale.
