Item Description
A beautiful full cabinet sized specimen of Galena from the West Fork Mine, near the Fletcher Mine in Missouri. This mine, at peak production, yielded 125 tons of lead per day(!), and also was the source of some beautiful Galena specimens like this one. The piece is loaded with fine quality, lustrous, metallic, silvery-grey colored cuboctahedral crystals measuring up to 2.3 cm, free of matrix. Most of the crystals are in very good condition, with only minor imperfections here and there. West Fork Galena specimens are rarely available on the market these days, and good display quality cabinet sized pieces like this are very few and far between.
From the collection of Chad Dalrymple, who purchased it on July 8, 1995.
