Item Description
A very unusual and bright miniature for this locality: pristine, splendent, battleship-gray, slightly modified, 1.5 x 1.3 cm, galena cube is aesthetically set on the crest of the upright quartz with galena matrix. The Groverake Mine at Rookhope was not known as a major specimen producer, compared to its much more famous neighbors, such as the Heights or Frazer's Hush Mines. This mine only closed in 1999. It was a major fluorspar producer in Weardale during the 1980s and 1990s (MINDAT). For the locale, this is a significant and uncommon galena specimen.
