Item Description
Kreittonite is an iron-bearing variety of the zinc-bearing Spinel species, Gahnite. So this is iron/zinc Spinel essentially. With that said, this is the only piece of this material that we've seen and features sharp, well-formed, lustrous, octahedral crystals of Kreittonite measuring up to 1.5 cm sitting on marble and sulfide matrix. It's more of a reference specimen as the crystals are not 100% complete, but this is RARE material, and if you collect minerals of the Spinel Group (which is about 30 species) or odd minerals from Germany, don't miss out on this hard to find piece from Bavaria. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#4290). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
