Item Description

A historic and excellent, old-time specimen, probably from Maine. Scintillating, pearlescent, apple-green plates of muscovite variety fuchsite cover both faces and are visible in seams in the layered gneiss matrix along with numerous small pyrite crystals. Fuchsite is the uncommon chrome-rich, green variety of muscovite. This showy, old, classic is from the English Colonel Joseph Neeld Collection # 3183 (which resurfaced in England in the early 1980s), and dates to the early 1800s. The fact, that an American specimen of this age resided in an English collection speaks volumes as to the quality and rarity of the piece, at that time. Maine fuchsite specimens of any AGE are VERY RARE on the market! Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock. MUCH, MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!
