Item Description
Note the old HENRY HEULAND (1778-1856) LABEL DATED 1832. He was the world's MAJOR mineral dealer of his day and this is a rare treasure, to go along with such a historic American rock from such a historic American locale. This is a nice example anyhow, of the classic franklinites from this old mine, with sharp black octohedrons embedded in massive, highly fluorescent neon-orange calcite with patches of fluorescent green willemite. The crystals reach 2 cm although one is not complete. It has spectacular and unique surviving provenance that is simply fun to see preserved! Ex Herb Obodda Collection. NOTE information on Heuland is here: http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=932, courtesy Mineralogical Record. Wendell Wilson's research reveals that the "H" indicates a specimen from Heuland's personal collection. Value of this great old-timer?? It really is quite literally "priceless" : It is a connection to the deep past of ineralogoy and of mineral collecting.
